Description William Andrew Sharpe with Horse, Digger.Here are a couple of interesting views of the former Greymouth Brewery courtesy of the late Jim Groom whom I visited in 2010 while working on the book "West of the Divide: More Memories of the Midland Line". He also supplied some wonderful notes as well as a sketch plan which add a lot to the value to the photos.

Building on the great photographic and oral history notes on this post already, this map dated May 1956, i.e. after the 1954 (?) slip, illustrates the details of Westland Breweries Ltd land ownership on Omoto Road. My interests stem from being a descendent of Samuel Hill and the fact that my grandmother Ethel McGregor (nee Hill) owned a section of land to the East of the brewery on which a house stood that, together with Gugums house, were then part of negotiations with the then NZ Railways to relocate the houses to Cobden.Map^[1]ContributorStephen Wright

CommentsKeith, interesting to read your post and see that survey plan. There's a very relevant photo and details on p 210-211 of "West of the Divide". I'll see if I can get the okay from the owner of the photo to reproduce it here. In the meantime, I found an aerial shot of the slip area. I only know it's from a newspaper published sometime in 1955. The big slip was in October 1954.

Ange Beck I’m pretty sure this is across the river on the Omoto side. Ours was Stewart’s brewery, we have quite a bit of history about this.

Mel Quinn and Bob Jamieson yes, you are correct about the location being on Omoto Road. There have been a few excellent posts with maps and even photos of the building from a distance.
