This visitor centre was built by the local community after much fund raising. In later years it seemed to belong to DOC with local patronage becoming very difficult!!!

An exceptional photographer from Dunedin. In 1939 an Austrian guide Franz Barra arrived at Fox Glacier as a refugee. He guided for 5 years at Fox then moved to Dunedin where he became an outstanding
