I worked with Ozzie Jackson, the Mayor, and at morning tea one morning I suggested that it was about time they put some younger people on the invitation list for civic functions instead of all the old fuddy-duddies that usually attend. Ozzie called my bluff and sent me an invitation to this event and unsurprisingly in attendance were me and a lot of old fuddy-duddies. I was 21 at the time and wonder if I would think that now.

I recall being on duty that day and the queen walking past but am unsure if the young policeman is me. I can't read the number on the epaulette. From memory Princess Anne was not in a happy mood. Her father had just given her a terse word about putting a smile on her dial.

I went to Victoria Park with my mother and fathers sister Muriel . I wore my Duke of Edinburgh's award Gold badge at Muriel's insistence. The Duke spotted it and both he and Liz came over and spoke, he asked me what I attained to receive the award and my contribution since. Muriel was over the moon being so close to both of them and hearing the conversations.
