We own this lovely old cottage in Nelson Creek. Approximately 110 years old. Know a bit about the history was told at some stage it was used by soldiers that returned from the war for recuperation but would love to know more especially who built it originally thanks so much. Diane Whittle that's what I said Fluerty house , remember going there with Dennis and Toihi
If it is the house and I think it is , Dennis used to say when he was lucky enough to get Pa 's car he would pull up at the front and the 3 boys would be leaning on the veranda watching him, and Toihi used to reply and your bloody lucky they didn't eat you . Hell I miss those 2 , we just bounced off each other

Wendy Gilmour I was very young when I last went there, I can only vaguely remember it, pretty sure they had an outside longdrop, used to scare me so much that I wouldn't use it! I do remember going to visit and having a meal there, possibly even having a sleep on Poppas bed or maybe it was Poppa asleep on his bed, well it was a long time ago.

Bill Gaulter yes local's have told me that over time people have dug around the yard as Popa Jack buried motorbike frames and parts no sure how they got on.

Jackie Fluerty l lived across the road, used to help him in his blacksmith shed, can remember all the gear he had, remember an old army Indian motor bike he had, imagine that today,so much history left lying around in all the properties up there

Yes this was my grandparents house. Jack and Catherine (Kate) Fluerty. If you speak to Jackie Fluerty, a granddaughter, at the Nelson Creek pub she can probably point you in right direction. I do remember mum telling us about when they first got electricity, Poppa made them all stand outside while he used his long walking stick to turn lights on for the first time. He was worried whole place would blow up. Place still holds lots fond memories.

I bought this house by tender to the public trust off Jack Fluerty who was in the Geriatric ward Hokitika hospital in 1975 when I was 20 my first home. It cost $760!! It was in an extremely dilapidated state having not been lived in for several years. I began its restoration by re roofing it and laying the split schist path out the front. It has passed through several hands since all of whom have continued its restoration to what you see today. Please PM me for further history
