DescriptionMURCHISON EARTHQUAKE : AFFECT ON WESTPORT
The 1929 June 17 Murchison earthquake magnitude 7.6 is the biggest quake to have hit Westport (1968 Inangahua 7.1 ). Few building escaped damage and transport and communications facilities in the town and surrounding district were severely damaged .
Most photos shown are from the 1929 Auckland Weekly News of that time which I personally own.
