Sad .. they could have left as a bike bridge and kept the history

Why do they have to pull it down? Maybe just another way of removing history? A bit like our weather records

Steph JF as they age they become a hazard to the new bridge if it collapses. A new one was built for a reason. They could leave piles but not spans.

Doesn't the new one have a bike lane. The last time we went over it was pretty shaky which was only a few weeks ago. High time it was removed. We were so excited to see the nice new one taking shape. Its been a very long time coming.

The Grandies would be so pleased there is a new bridge but for someone who does not have to put up with the rattle and shake and inconvenience of a one-way bridge I'm

Kristy Kewene I agree walking across from Nana and Grandad's house was always a nail-biting experience... would a big truck come, could we hold on to the railings balanced on the wood siding and squish ourselves far enough over? Ah childhood memories!
Walking across a couple of years ago the bridge was certainly showing it's age long due!

I have memories of this bridge sandblasted & painted it with Matte Osborne in the 1970 s while working for the Barrow brothers [JIM & Arther ]from Greymouth

Yeah i feel sad when I rode it on my horse for the last time on opening day..i always felt safe it being a one way but i dont think id feel safe riding new bridge..old ahaura bridge was buggered but im told it had gone to a new home not my place of choice but oh well..
