KAURI,s grounding and refloating at Westport,while entering Westport at 6.30am on the 23rd of June 1914, she struck the eastern breaker, then slewed round the breakwater then went ashore 200 yards to the north on a sandy beach, she then refloated, then drifted about half a mile further north before grounding again. An inspection of the KAURI revealed that there were holes in the vessel,s hull under No 1 and No 4 holds as well as the engineroom, repairs were carried out, and the tugs TERAWHITI and MANA tried to tow her off and were successful about 5.0pm on the Ist of July, the KAURI was then taken to Wellington for repairs. The KAURI was built in 1905 at West Hartlepool as the HARMONY purchased by the Union Co in 1912 and renamed KAURI, sold in 1928 and renamed MINNIE MOLLER, sunk in 1937 during the Sino-Japanese war gross tonnage was 2833 tons.
