Is this picture looking over towards Cobden side, I went to school here in greymouth, this is such a old and amazing picture, I love all the old pictures to wow so faceanating our past history of our home towns

Those pillars that the bridge sat on are still there in 2021 resisting all floods.

Would that be the original railway bridge. Just looking at where the rock wall finishes, it passes under the old road bridge not West of it?

Thats looking over towards Cobden, the rock fall is the Cobden Quarry site & on the r/h side is the road to Rununga.

Two unfinished cylinders on the Cobden side broke off in this flood. The contractor squealed 'bad design, they were not deep enough and scoured out.' He was paid a large sum of money. Later events proved the break off was a contractor fault as the stumps were still in place and the cylinders reconnected to them. Had the cylinders been fully filled with concrete - the working chamber at the bottom and internal access shaft were not filled - they would have survived as they still do.
