My dad, however, coal range cooked the best "braised" mutton chops ever.
Also, the dried out husks of forgotten roast potatoes rescued from the back of the oven, smothered in butter were a treat.

mum made shepherds pie a different way and i used to help her. mince the raw carrot and onion and cooked mutton in mincer then press into dish and cover with mashed spud,, was yummy. then eat with homemade plum sauce

On the girdle was piklets, and girdle scones. Baked lots of fantastic cakes and biscuits in the oven. Her marshmallow cake was wow. Amazed how thick the marshmallow was on the top of the shortcake 3inches. And she did it with a hand mixer.
