I suspect that it's the First 11 football (soccer) team not a first 15 (rugby union) team Regardless of the numbers in the photo (some are reserves) check what it says on the football at their feet in the front row. I played football with some of these guys both at High School and in the Greymouth United (soccer) club.
Les Bryce
That's what it says in the title, First 11
Bruce Keddie
Does now! Said " First 15" when originally posted.
Les Bryce

Mike Rodgers thanks very for that, I will write the names on the back of the photo
Bruce Keddie
Yep, I would go with that.
Gary Murdoch
Well done on the names. It's Kevin Williams. I was there and I could recall only 3!!. Last time I checked I was still going and I know Kevin Williams and Bruce Able are still hanging in there. How many are not, I wonder?
There was a bit of an anti-league bias at GHS and we league people wouldn't stoop to playing that game anyway so that's how the Blackball boys ended up in the soccer team.
Got quite interested in the game though and that year I travelled with Bruce Abel's family to Christchurch to watch an exhibition match between Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United. If I recall correctly there was a special railcar put on for the event.
As they say, those were the days.
Mike Rodgers
Thanks, Gary, I have corrected Kevin's name.
Mike Rodgers
I cheated. I used the 1964 Mawhera Gazette.David Hall
That photo brings back good memories of my time at Grey High.
Eddie Parsons
Some hard cases in that team
Chris Kyle
Making a first 11 on the coast would require more bravery than skill.
Jeffrey Paparoa Holman
I played soccer for a Blackball team in the 60s, Gary Murdoch, they made me goalie, nobody else wanted the job. We got thrashed in Cobden by about 11-zip too, if I remember. Then the team blamed me for letting all those shots past. Funny that, the other team (Cobden) was always down our end!
Then our driver made us kids sit in the car while he drank at Kells Hotel! I went home and resigned.Gary Murdoch
Any still living on the Coast I wonder?
Anne Mcmillan Miller
Gary Murdoch Russell Alison lives in Hokitika.Gary. has dementia i believe. He was in.my class at primary school. We had 3 sets of twins in our class.
Anne Mcmillan Miller 4 sets of twins Annie. Alison's, Hoggs, Marsh's and us.
Barbara Fitzsimmons
Anne Mcmillan Miller TERRIBLE
Thanks Anne. Shame about Russell. We weren't much of a soccer team getting beaten 8 or 9 nil by Westport that year (although it may have been the '63 team now that I think about it!)
