Had my tea at that cafe every Friday depending on season.Oysters,whitebait,a whole sole or flounder with eggs(2 ) and chips plus buttered bread with vinegar splashed over it all.Could start the taste buds salivating from about Wednesday.

Mr Steele was killed in car accident on way back to Greymouth His wife ran Golden Eagle for a long time stayed there in 60s coming ova for the races

The first hotel that was on this site of the Golden Eagle was the Boundary Hotel in the 1860’s.
Owned for a time by my ggg grandfather James Rugg. It burnt down later on and the hotel rebuilt on its site was eventually called the Golden Eagle.

Harry owned the boat. Myers used to bring the soles home on a Thursday night with some twine thru their necks then scale them for lunch on Friday. Dont get soles that size today

Those were the days. Went to a wee cafe in Dunedin a few months back. Reminded me of intermans after a wee session at the pub. Same style tables and they had the buttered bread you used to get to nibble on before your meal. You just can't beat the simple things. Loved it!
