DescriptionThe Trek. A sponsored walk from Kumara Junction to Greymouth in the late 1960's. Myself and Jonny Knapp played our Bagpipes most of the way.

This was the Operation 21 sponsored walk organised by CORSO (Council of Organisations for Relief Service Overseas) to raise funds for overseas relief efforts.
I believe the Kumara Junction - Greymouth location was chosen for the Operation 21 walk because it was about 21 “half miles” long. (21 "real" miles would have been too far for us kids!) It was 67 or 68. I remember running most of it. Can't recall what it was for. Most of my high school class were there.
