There was two entrances. The one in behind the red letterbox for during the week but another single door for weekends further to the right where there were only certain items on view that were able to be bought at weekends. Crazy times

Brian McIntyre thanks so much for the pic Brian , I remember the Kennedy’s used to have there horses on Chuns hill , now it is covered in gorse I think , I loved sitting on the hill when I was 10 and looking over grey , you have put a smile on my face I don’t get over often enough

We lived in the house on the other corner from 1945 to 52. Lowes and Meiklejohs owned the shop. Threadnedxle street was full of houses and families. All the men went to work. Johnny Knapp, Doc Finlay, Martin McEnaney, Great times. All the kids played in the street, cricket,marbles

I remember riding past there about a year earlier to pick up The Press for my paper round and hearing a car back fire a few times, only to get home and be told the news that there was a seige Threadneedle Street and we got the day off school. Good times good times

All regular visitors to the store.
And yes with the closeness of the houses we could hear what we should not be hearing.

Peter Sinclair boarded with Mrs Baumgart when he worked on radio in Greymouth.
Mrs Baumgart was the last house on the right going up the street.
Her house was right up high.
