AddBy: Maureen16th Jan 2022 5:17AMWe included Walter Blackburn in the chapter on WWI in our local history book, published in 2008,.about the village of Arlecdon, Cumbria, UK, where Walter's parents, Joshua and Eleanor Blackburn lived, His name appears on the village war memorial and Roll of Honour (I have photos).
We are now trying to follow the fortunes (or misfortunes) of West Cumbrian miners who emigrated at about the same time as Walter. One of these was another Arlecdon man, John Jackson Adams, who travelled with a group of miners and arrived in December 1910 aboard the vessel "Ionic". Although he returned to the UK in 1914 to enter politics and to become Baron Adams of Ennerdale, it is believed that some of his fellow travellers remained in New Zealand and also became involved in politics and government. I would be grateful for advice about where to obtain information.
