Love this......my great grandfather was also born in Ross

I don't want to start a dispute, but I believe that my great grandmother, on my mothers side, Caroline Hunt, was possibly the first European child born on the West Coast, at Kaniere, in 1845. She was the daughter of missionaries, who were on the Coast at the time, and had converted Maori to Christianity, at Okarito, before Thomas Brunner did his big expedition down the Coast, in 1846. She died in Wellington in 1933, at the age of 88.

Chris Windley, all good, its why we say we believe he was one of the first 4 white boys born on the West Coast. They did move about quite a bit, Ross, Kaniere, Hokatika, etc, and mostly the gold fields. Sorry but the blurb I wrote was all about the first photo, not sure why its been separated into two photo headers.
