They were brought to Greymouth from Nelson on a vessel called Jane built and skippered by Jacobson, the wife and baby girl stayed with Maori and Samuel Mackley went to Waipuna as it was the only place found with natural pasture and built that hut, the wife and baby girl were canoed and helped by maori to then get to Waipuna, stock came from the east coast, gold rushes started in Reeften etc and the near by Napoleon hill, Waipuna was a hub helping supplying the new comers, must of been incredible times

The roof appears to be thatched. Anyone know what kind of materials they used? Presume from native tree or plant of some kind.

What times to be living in, The wife always had the kids dressed well , Cooked the meals , chopped the wood and they took everything in there stride , real pioneers?…Even my own Mother was raised ina 2 roomed hut with5 other siblings
