in 1965 and66 coming down from the mine the bus would stop and haif the bus would get off and have a beer wally would have them all lined up.. would only be there approx., 4to 5 minutes good to wash the coal dust down. or for thirsty men. good times.

Stayed there one Easter early/mid 70's. My Aunty and Uncle from Christchurch either owned it for a while or had rented it, can't exactly remember. It wasn't open for business then, just somewhere to stay.

My grandmother was born there, Mollie Gray. Her father was Peter Gray, mine foreman from about 1900 - 1915

Millerton - my father and his brother and sister were all born there. Their father was the postmaster from 1920 and they lived in the post office house.

Being postmaster also came with the job of registrar of births deaths and marriages. My father and his siblings birth certificates were hand written out by their father!

Auntie Joy and Doug owned it as a holiday place. Lots of rooms Remember the Millerton swimming pool? We swam there.

Had many beers here, Sunday afternoon " baps" with lashings of west coast butter just topped off the day. Then a hair raising trip down the Millerton tract to Granity.

My Father Tom Williams & his 2 sisters were born up here, Tom went to school there, His sisters all died within 5 years of birth. There are some very sad stories of the families who lived up there.

Lived in the old Police House Once opposite the Hall, Sunset Rock was really that and the Library at the Hall was Awseome So Was The Pool. My Son was Born into That House...sadly i lost him in 2011 but in that House he lives on.Robin James

My good friend owned this. He had great plans for it too. But it had squatters living in it and was eventually/ inevitably burnt to the ground. Still really P's me off.

Worked for Reynolds cordial factory,helped to carry the product on to the pub .was Wally his name ? Did his sister help run it,with his wife.this would be around 62 or 63 .the good old days!

You are quite correct in all your assumptions Ray. I think Geordie Orman lived there as well. Wally would have all the miners glasses filled and placed at there allocated spots around the bar just prior to the Bus arrived.
I spent many happy weekends staying at Noel Boswels in the early Sixties and have many a story I could tell about some of the antics we got upto..

.in the late fifty there was the,Millerton school jubilee and I remember my parents say that it was the only time they had heard of a pub with no beer. Apparently half way though the weekend it run out so they had to bring more up from Westport.
