Painting by Gordon Pettigrew for my folks Bev and Keith Sheard. Gordon originally painted the "old cookhouse" from Old Tom's section which Ma and Pa owned back then as well. He called in home just after completing that painting to ask permission to come back and paint the Old Convent and School another day. Neither Ma or Pa were home so I bought the cookhouse painting, it was still wet and unsigned so Gordon had to quickly sign it, I I told him he would be welcome to come back to paint our home and that we would definitely be interested in purchasing the resulting painting...he actually did two, Mum actually asked if could add a little black blob and stightly larger brown blob to the front steps of the Convent only painting to depict PatsyDo and Brutus sitting up there watching the world pass by as they used but Gordon didn't think he could work them into the painting and have them recognizable as dogs so left them out, Mum was a little disappointed but apart from that was very happy with the outcome of both paintings. For those who think the front steps look a little off, the three slightly greyer bottom "steps" are actually the only whole old concrete slabs that were what was left of the concrete path leading down to the letterbox.
