My parents were given work there as refugees from Hitler by Mick Sullivan just after he bought the hotel. I'll be very interested to know of any connections to the Sullivans or the mountain guide Franz Barta. Still within living memory, I hope.

Annie Smith I also spoke with you briefly at Molly's funeral. My mother Pat Nolan/Sullivan worked at the pub as a breakfast chef which was handy for her as the family homestead is directly across the road! She was also involved in the guiding part of the hotel and we have seen photos of her doing this up the Fox Glacier. The Nolan boys used to stay at the hotel when they were driving their cattle from Haast to the Whataroa Cattle sale. The rest you might say is 'history'.
