Mmmm. In 1953 there were massive tides etc. and the house we lived in on the beachfront, next to Jim McCabe was taken out. The waves went up the Ngakawau River up into the Tavern.
As an addendum, the bases of the chimneys from our house, are embedded in the beach directly opposite to the rugby ground today.
