About this image
DescriptionWith the recent passing of a Greymouth Engine driver, I feel it must be time to present this photograph of the Elmer Lane Locomotive Staff. I'm not naming the chaps, and a lot have gone from us. Some chaps missed the appointment due to other committments on the day. I'm there, but not saying where.

Were some of these guys railcar drivers? What an amazing rail infrastructure we had on the Coast back in the day. We never had a car so transportation was on Kennedy’s buses (regular service from Power Road into town), or their taxis, or railcar. I recall as a kid seeing the railcar drivers in their beige and green uniforms, I used to think they were immortal beings!
Nicki Killner
