Giuseppe Scettrini and Catherine Heneberry were my 2X-great-grandparents, and lived in Kumara after a time in Big Dam/Goldsborough. I am descended from their eldest child, Johanna, who married Frank Payn, and their grand-daughter Rose Payn who married James Joseph Lalor.

David Honey My grandmother was Rose Payn, who was Matilda’s sister. She married James Joseph Lalor and the family lived in Kumara. Rose died quite young in 1943.

My father always said the Scettrini side of the family was Italian. Thank you for sharing the photo. Is there a book in the future.

Anne Honey Yes I think everyone thought that he was Italian, and that was certainly what he spoke. Maybe it was Maurice Payn who first got the bits of paper that showed otherwise, I'm not sure. But on his marriage entry it says he was from Switzerland, and when he was naturalised he named his birthplace as Corippo, Canton of Ticino, Switzerland.

Margaret Riordan interesting isn't it. Swiss just accepted as children what we were told. Did it have his work or was he a farmer.

That where the name Payn’s Gulley comes from? Never seen it written, assumed there was an e in there. As a kid I played around the pipeline that used to cross the Taramakau over to there from the back of Dillmanstown. Our school teacher Lorraine Alexander and her late husband Bevan developed that area as a sanctuary.

I have a feeling Giuseppe Scettrini may have mined with one of my relatives in Goldsborough area. I can't recall which one at the moment, but I read it just a few days ago.
