I remember our next door neighbor running it. Most impressed when he came past us just opposite the cemetery (Australasian Hotel?) looking quite relaxed. Mind you, he was an All Black triallist.

I think that this may be the year my late husband Lyall Hood may have run in as a 16yr old. In which he came second to Dave MCKenzie???!

A list of results of top place getters since inception of this race would be interesting. I ran harriers here on the Coast from 1968 until 1975 when I left school. Guess notable names such as Dave McKenzie, Eddie Gray, Colman Creagh, Jim Hamilton, Jack Stuart, Peter and Gary Howat might be there. I never ran this race but was a spectator on occasions.

Trish Barry Andrews Well down Bazza. I ran the distance a number of times but not here on the Coast. I would run half marathons in 1hr.12m - 1hr.15m. Ran the boxing day around the bridges in Hoki a number of times and also participated in the Jim Hamilton event that replaced it a number of times.

Trish Barry Andrews. I actually meant to type well done not well down. Your time wouldn't have you near the front though. You were a solid walker with plenty of endurance in your day. Many never run a marathon at all!
