We lived and breathed Enid Blyton when we were kids,Laura. The Public Library would not stock her books in the 50's and 60's as they were deemed 'unsuitable' so we relied on birthdays, Christmas or encouraging mum to chat to Miss Brislane (book shop owner) on shopping day so we could sneak a book from her shelves to read out of sight while we waited.

Ahaura school had a series of history books about explorers of times past. Vasco da Gama, Christo Colombo even the likes of Alexander The Great & Marco Polo. I just loved these books, they began a life time like of ancient history.
