I was looking up about Brighton the other day..interesting..would be good to unearth and honour the people’s lives in the cemetery which apparantly is there somewhere @ Brian McIntyre

Lara, great find. I haven’t been there for years. I thought Brighton was slightly further north of the Fox River and there was more land between the highway and the sea. The gold was from cemented sandstone layers higher up in the hills behind Brighton from memory. Good find. You are promoted.

Bob Laing Called Welshman’s Terrace. I have a copy of a very well written book called Brighton It’s boom and Bust, written by Les Wright. In it is the original plan of Brighton in its heyday and later when the Robert Edward Price family had a farm on part of Brighton land. I’d recommend it for anyone interested in its history. A true “ghost town” as there’s nothing there. I think at the time of writing a group of people were looking after the cemetery but not sure about today. Robert Edward was my great grandfather.

Great idea Viv .searched and found the last couple of headstones in the scrub in a wee exploration 30 plus years ago. I think I read that the majority were relocated to Charleston cemetary?

It was still like that photo in mid seventies. The erosion got bad in the 80s. I can see ragwort cottage and and still remember that as a kid. The old cemetery is getting hard to find, the bush has got big.

Can anyone remember the Price family in Brighton? Would love to know about them as my mother and father divorced when I was young. Some moved to Westport later.
