DescriptionWe drove around the West Coast in a Morris Minor in September 1971 on our honeymoon: it was a real expedition! Here is one of our photos, showing a washout of a thick concrete retainer wall in the Buller Gorge which was flooded and a raging torrent at the time. We hesitated to keep going, stopped the car and watched the tree trunk missiles roaring down the river. Half the road was washed away but in the end, we carried on. Others watched us and followed once they knew we have safely tested it. This trip was only the start. A few years later we drove out VW camper from one end of Africa to the other so the West Coast was a good training ground.
