Brian McIntyre I thought that there was a swimming pool there long before that. There was one in Hokitika much earlier than that. Maybe the one posted is a replacement.

Clare Pierson There was the old baths before these new ones were built, concrete not tiled and very old changing rooms.

Judith Cossar thank you. Those are the baths I recall. A couple of friends and I rode our bicycles up there in late 1954 had a swim and then a fruit parfait at Frank Bell's before riding home. We were late for tea!!

Christopher Morresey strangely enough Chris I dont. But we used to walk from Marist to the baths for a swim so maybe that would have been to the old one, but I dont know

I don't remember them being heated. 74 degrees F is 14 degrees (23 degrees C) below blood temp.

An upgrade in the district's facility is certainly what we have now. The old pool was beyond refurbishment by the year 2000.

Rode my bike from Cobden swam the afternoon then a milkshake accross the road.
Had to watch the metal joining plates on the bleachers they got very hot

Heaps of fun times had there over many years. Hated swimming training in the mornings though - so cold. Snowy Rochford was always there to keep an eye on us. Great times and memories.
