Arlene Hutcheon It was Frederick and Annie Havill that had the hotel.

I'm fairly sure Annie Havill had been Annie Kennedy thus Frederick Havill was the son in law of Joseph Kennedy the original owner of the Kanieri Forks Accomodation House (pub/hotel).

Bruce Dando Hey Bruce in those days, ours ran the pipeline in from the lake for water supply.... no worries about dunnies they built them too.

Fred and Annie had a daughter called Ruby who married Charles Mills, he was my grand father. The little blonde boy in the photo is my great uncle Fred, older brother to Ruby.

Anthea Rose my dad was Charlie Mills and I remember him telling me he would go to his uncles place in the school holidays to help milk the cows. It was at Kokatahi I think.

A copy of this photo appears in a book I have and is credited to the late Denis Pfahlert. George Pfahlert on the right in the photo would have been his uncle or great uncle?

Hi Glenn, yes old time Kaniere ones. Wondering if we have any info on Charles Mills (m Ruby Havill) - I just found Bronwen Mills comment on 12/10 21 "My Great grandfather (Havill) who married my great grandmother Annie Kennedy owned the Kaniere Forks Hotel after her father passed away. Annie had 3 children that I know of, Ruby, Ruth and Fred jnr. Their daughter Ruby married our grandfather Charles Mills who had come over from the east coast. They lived up Bouchers Gully after they married,for some time and had 3 children: Mavis, Charles and Gordon and one son Robert who only survived 2 weeks of life. Our dad Charlie tells of how he was born on the track coming out of Bouchers Gully on their way down to the Forks. I have some photo's of the Forks Hotel. Will try to find them and up load them". Have you seen this Jeff Mills. Then too Ruth m Fred Rudkin (Kumara history there), their grandson Michael is in regular contact from Aus. and looks like young Fred family in Aus as well.
