That's a great poem "the good old days" written by George who was involved with Sth Westland roading. He was caretaker of Westland High when we were there.

Remember him well from my High School days when he was caretaker. He always seemed to be friendly and cheerful. George and his wife lived in Davie Street, number 47.

When Ron Stewart visited George and Jessie in Davie Street on holiday Jessie made us whitebait patties for lunch and packed some to take back to Christchurch I was married to Ron and still around at 89 Joyce Fuller ( Stewart)

George was such a nice guy who had 100% respect for all students and we gave it back in return.
Never flustered by our poor behaviour but instead became our early mentor. Loved the stories he told along with the advice he gave so freely. Shame I was not able to have the same level of respect for most of my teachers. George taught me so much, but sadly I did not realise it until after his passing. Nothing but respect for him.

I remember one time we were going to the Glaciers I think from Greymouth and called into to see Uncle George and Aunt Jesse at Harihari. She was making scones or picklets so I tried to tell Mum and Dad I was too sick to go any further
