AddBy: William Gray15th Jun 2022 1:46PMThe month and year for this photograph is October 1936, the two ships in port are the Coaster HOKITIKA, and the MAWHERA the then Grey Harbour Board dredge. The HOKITIKA traded to Hokitika as well as Greymouth up until late 1940, when she was sold to the Anchor Co in 1941, she was famous for loading coal from the coal fume at Woodpecker Bay in the June 1940, but due to the Bay being exposed to the weather and the elements, that trade was discontinued. Built at Dunedin in 1916 as the WAIPU for the Northern Co of Auckland, she changed owners several time over her career as well as changing names, her last known name was HAVANNAH when she traded around the Cook Islands, which was 1965, sadly there is no further details available. But no doubt ended her days around the Pacific Islands.
