Sad to say we don't have a dredge like the Mawhera was. She took massive loads of stones from the river and took them several miles out to sea. Nowadays the river takes less stones a fraction of the distance out and sea movement dumps it all on our beach. In the dredges day, sea movement dumped it at the Northern end where a stone crushing plant was waiting. The plant was one of our play pens. Share a bottle of soft drink and a genourous bag of broken biscuits from the settlement store.
