Was there an Ikamatua Pub? I seem to remember wood chopping behind the pub in the early 70's when I was competing in axemen's events as a younger fella.

Grahame Kelly yes, there still is, but I don’t know if they still have the chops there. I used to love going to the chops.

Rebekah Fairhurst Geer Our team of axemen used to leave Ashburton at 4am to get over there for the events, have dinner and lots of drinks at the pub once the events were over then drive back over the hill to Ashburton. Got back around 4am the next morning. They were very long, but very enjoyable occasions. Still love the Best Coast but never lived.

Ikamatua, great memories. The hotel was just across from the Railway station. Stayed there in 2017 and 2018 and the hospitality was first class. Some gold was still in the Grey river up opposite the Waipuna Station. Holiday here is recommended. Graeme Trusler (1945 to 1948) my time there.Paul Huffam
The pub at Ikamatua was called the "Dominion Hotel". publicans I recall there were the Greens (I think), & Jack Naylor. Jack was there I think at the time Waiuta came to a halt in 1951. As a schoolboy in the early fifties. I sold milk to them at four pence a pint!

As a child For a short time,I remember living at Jim O’Malley house.What a grand old home it was.I wonder if it is still standing.
