My Dad, John Jones helped the Muir’s strip their house of furniture, etc when the river was pouring waist deep around it

When we lived at the Forks Hotel we caught the school bus (Mrs McBride) from that farm to go to the Whataroa School.

Yes. Was a wicked flood. Think it took the bridge too. A Bailey was used for a while. I think it also spelled the end of Lake Wahapo being used for power boat racing owing to the driftwood.

Donald no the new bridge was still under construction and the wooden truss one survived. As the bed dograde down the new outlet about a year later the old one collapsed about a few weeks before the deck finished on the new. Had a bailey span put across the unfinished area and workers laid final concrete working under the bailey. Kevin O'Regan

Kevin Oregan Thanks for the correction..one thing I do remember is how quickly bridges were built..Waitangi, Whataroa and Porerua. The time it takes to do anything day is crazy.

I went to Whataroa Feb ,1969 and new bridge there then.

Graeme Pierson My mum first public vehicle over bridge. She drove the school bus and was let thru on way back from morning drop off if I remember correctly.

Is that the police constable Graeme Pierson ? I returned to Whataroa Feb 70 newly married and took over the depot from Blue but had previously worked Whataroa and points South before back to Reefton April 68 cheers Graeme. Kevin O'Regan

When Renners owned that farm before Muirs , I was in that home lots of times i believe before that my uncle Alf Dehn owned it..... in the 30s and 40s
