I love the corrogated chimney hiding a huge fireplace inside.The Coasters were very good at making much required tools from corrogated iron,this building,the rear and sides of their homes...And I and mates floated in a corrogated iron canoe bent long ways,and nailed to two 4 x 1s at each end.Carters beach.

I met Tom Seddon when I was at high school.He visited my family having known them from the old days. He was then a very elderly and distinguished man. My folks must have known him well because they called him Tommy!!! I didn't know his history then,but I knew he was a famous man from a famous family so I was pretty tongue tied even though he spoke to me about cricket (which me and my mates were playing on the front lawn)

Looks like the Hostel Creek creek I stayed a few times from 1963 to 1969. Jim Stewart a meat hunter made it his base into the 70s. Didn't get any sun in the winter. Thin ice formed on the billy in the fire place.
There were great stories charcoal written on the inner wall linings. Great memories.

So good to have a photo of a proper roadmans hut with the roadman himself. I wonder what the average interval was between huts..

Pete Lusk I believe that the next hut was at cattle Track blow fly but, Cross moaraki river, About, 5 miles,May be more, if that was Paringa,Haast track

That piece of angled tin above the door is handy…it diverts the streams of water from the roof so you don’t get soaked
