DescriptionIt is what was used to haul logs across Lake Brunner from Hohonu and the Irishmans to Moana and Te Kinga. You can just make out the barge behind it. There were a number of Steamers doing this and they were also used as ferrys around the lake. The first steamer on Lake Brunner was the Tay. It was hauled up the river from Greymouth in 1890. There were a number of steamers after this. This is another photo of the same steamer at Cashmere Bay / Iveagh Bay. Note the barge, which is fitted out to carry people and tow logs from the beams and the chains hanging from them. Was p[art of the moana cubs contingent (under cubmaster Albert Densie)who paraded on the occasion of the removal of the last tug Tikunui from the lake via what is no w the jetty /launch ramp.IIRC she was taken on a low loader to nelson for use as a fishing boat although ???ended life as a floating freezer. great days those!

I can remember that boat as I lived in Tekinga when it was working bringing logs across to the saw mill there I also remember it being transported to Nelson many years ago I was about 11years old when we lived there
