It was very hard to hear anyone in the Kumara West Coast pub when the dredge was in action. Below the town but what a bloody noise it made Early 60's I think it was we were on our way to Otira, just had to try out the watering holes as next one was Jacksons?

Does anyone know where exactly was it constructed. Was it behind Westroads or more out towards the river. There is a pile of boulders in the river near where the tram meets the road by the cutting. Would have thought it would be to risky to build it in the river however. That photo looks like it has the river in the background.

I remember the dredge at. Kaniere,we used to enjoy over the road from my Aunty lil head an behind kulsons the big hole never could swim in it as we were scared ov how deep it was ,think we were told it went forever,no.one did.walked thru the cuttings an could here the dredge clanking away

My father, Duncan Rae, electrician, worked on the Kanieri dredge construction and later on Ngahere dredge until about1952. I see from his references he was qualified in 'installment of heavy machinery'. Posting photos help me identify which site his unlabeled photos came from.
