Brian McIntyre ,i can't help but notice that the rubbish is all steel and hard fill etc,no plastic bottles,bags and all the horrible stuff of current times,Paper and burnable stuff was most probably saved to light the coal range,there wouldn't be the waste that there is today.

Well I don’t think so because it doesn’t look like our home No 43 beside it.
It could well be the lower side of Packers Quay though as it was considerably lower.

I've been told over the years that messenger park was a dump could it be there looking towards Preston's rd houses

Vanessa Hay Messenger Park was filled with solid fill it wasn’t filled with rubbish. I remember watching Williams trucks filling it over the years.

There’s an old mill boiler engine and a car in there! Probably worth thousands now!

You can see the swing bridge where Packets Quay starts. The fish pond was basically behind messengers on Collins street. I was told Tomases. Middletons to where Barbers lived across to Blake st Oliver’s, Ports, Rotheras Turnbulls all built on the filled in Pond. Maybe Glenn’s Walton may have some thoughts

We used to get tadpoles from the frog pond in the late 40s, there was very little rubbish there then.

Heather Newby as kids we used to paddle around in our gumboots after a good drop of rain! It felt like losing an old friend when they built on it. I always wondered what the ground was like around these houses after rain, or did they drain it somehow.
