That must be not long after the completion of the Preston Road bridge I helped to build in 1966. The place looks much tidier now.

5th house from the left was my grandparents - Bags and Bessie Byrne, it was number 13. their section was a double-width one i think, was great for catching eels out back in the lagoon as a young boy, but terrible with flooding. Many a time with an approaching flood, we would park the car on high ground up the road and walk in - Lift every bit of furniture and carpets up on to masses of beer crates saved just for that purpose, then walk out 2 or 3 hours later with water having risen up to our waist high, and already getting close to floor level. in one big flood, a beer crate turned out to be not high enough, what a mess it was...
