Murray Taylor was one of my teachers at lake brunner school.Always ran with his german shepherd Khan. Dave McKenzie used to run past mums place in Alexander St and boy did he scoot up Easons hill.

Murray was a teacher at moana school when i lived there in my childhood.his house was next to ours . he had a magnificent german shepherd named Khan who went on all his runs with him and was so gentle with us kids . fond memories.

Cliff was the runner in an unusual event. It was between, of course, a runner,,, a cyclist,,, and a horse.It was a half mile handicap race on the Kumara course.Cliff, myself as the cyclist, and an unnamed, unnraced local bred horse. I gave Cliff a good start with the horse giving both of us a substantial headstart. It was nearly a photo finish with Cliff winning, I was second with the horse closing fast third.

A couple of great Runanga runners there Dave was a great athletics coach and from time to time when doing pre- season training for league Dave and Eddie would run with me I would run from Runanga to Raphoe the pace was insane I would say I’m going back now they said were off to the 10 mile
By the time I got back to Runanga they caught me up lol
