Note the heavy chain. There was a heavy chain at the Cobden upstream beacon, about 10m upstream of THE GUT. I guess the purpose was for the anchoring of the dredge - MAWHERA (am I correct - 1930, or was there an earlier dredge.

That's an awesome photo, I wonder where mafh was way back then

Spring tide. Would the years of the photo be known? I think the chain was for the Mawhera Dredge to 'anchor' onto while the bucket dredge operated. Correct?
