UPDATE - 200-year shipwreck mystery,Westport.

This was found to be a large section of the hull off a brig sailing ship identified as The Mountain Maid. She ran aground on the Buller River bar on Sept 5th 1867. She was identified by coal fragments found in the timbers in the hold. Frames of which were taken away for analysis to the Otago University and found to be coal from Newcastle. The ship was coming with supplies of coal for Westport as coal was not mined till years later.More history can be found in the book NZ Shipwrecks by C W N Ingram.Map^[1]

I found this ship some years ago,when we were doing a road widning, that's why there is a kink in the road
