This morning I've compared this photo to a few others taken from much the same spot. I'm positive the intersection is that of Fitzherbert and Tudor Streets. I still believe the date is the early 1900's and will add that it is likely later than 1905, but not a lot, as you can see a new house in this photo but not the 1905 photo. You can see the gap where the railway is but the lines themselves are obscured because of vegetation and because the railway is at lower elevation than the surrounding land.

It looks like the corner of Fitzherbet and Park St
Photo taken from about the 2nd or third house along on the high side of the road.
I don’t see the clearing for the railway line behind the first houses so possibly pre 1893 before the railway arrived in Hokitika.
If I am correct my uncle lived about where the photo was taken from.
