I rode on the top of the stage coach at the Reefton celebrations. I'm happy and used to heights, but that was weird ! It felt so unstable yet was on the streets of the town. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to take on the pass on any of those upper seats !

My great grandmother, Lucy O'Neill, used to travel from Christchurch to Reefton by stage coach. She used to tell us about everyone having to get out and walk on the steep hills.
