DescriptionCONSTRUCTION OF THE TIP HEAD PLATFORM.
A line of steel piling driven to retain the rock spread of the breakwaters so that the entrance channel could be cleared of rock giving a safer passage for ships. The task of driving the piles was started in 1958. The concrete platform has withstood huge sea swells over the last sixty years protecting the south tip head and the Grey river entrance.Map^[1]ContributorTony Kokshoorn

I use to ride my bike down the ramp to the platform many moons ago. When Dad took Mum down there to see what I had been up to she nearly had canerys. Mind you everyone that went down there use to put the brakes on and slide towards the end
