DescriptionI was at the Big River mine site yesterday and was looking at the Robey steam winding engine……very impressed (I am a mining engineer from Cornwall and used to install and maintain winders and underground pumps at the tin mines there)

This winder is a little unusual in so much that both of the drums are “clutched”

Bob Orchard Most double drum winders I drove were double clutched. The last one I worked on had a single clutch and took 2 days for a rope change.

David Jackson The Victory shaft winder at the Geevor tin mine, Pendeen, Cornwall, UK, had a double drum but only one drum clutched.
We could do a rope change in a day.
1600 feet deep shaft
