No clues as to who created it, however we have probably identified the man standing in front of the whitebait factory, he appears to be WCSHI member Annetta Karam's ancestor Thomas Foxcroft who opened the first one in Hoki.Map^[1]ContributorDarian Zam

Bob Strong was there then Bob, In what was Sale Street not far from the entrance to the hall . I remember it when I was there from 1970, Baz.

Still there just along toward Hampden St further from where used to go into school hall.... (hall now all rebuilt due to fire).

The thread starter photo would be as seen from Hampden Street? My Grandparents once owned 127 Hampden Street meaning my mother had a very short distance to go to school. She was both a pupil there and then taught there c. 1945 -47. Her youngest brother Ray ended up being one of her pupils.

Can anyone tell me what year that was built please? My Dad went to high school in Hokitika and I wondered if it was in that building. He was born in 1900.

The State School Hokitika was opened in 1866- here is an excerpt from Papers Past website: West Coast Times 28th September 1866-HOKITIKA .SCHOOL. Open to children of both sexes. Subjects taught- All the branches of a thorough English, commercial and classical Education. For terms, etc, apply at the School -at the junction of Stafford with Tancred streets. ( A. Malcolm, master).

Previously school was held in the Fire Brigade Hall in Revell Street!
