The NILE was built in Westport in 1884, and before becoming a trawler, she was used on some cargo trades around the West Coast, and Buller, and at sometime in her life went in to the Nile river at Charleston. After being laid up at Greymouth for sometime, she was towed from here on the 14th of June 1952, by the MELVA S and scuttled 24 miles straight out from Greymouth, and sank in 118 fathoms of water in the old measurement. and she was 69ft in length.
