DescriptionThroughout the 60's - a social night out could mean a circuit of the local hotels - my favourite was the Brian Boru on the quay - Mr & Mrs Ira Beatie were the most entertaining hosts (to all hours of the morning) - it was the scene of many domestics and police raids, mainly ChCh police sent over to try to bring the licencing laws into line)?Map^[1]ContributorPeter Spence

Yes entertaining hosts, were permanently under the weather. I can remember walking to Lancaster Park to a Test Match in the 80's and lo and behold there was Ira, stark naked, shouting from a balcony, with a bottle in one hand.
