Linda you are so correct. Maureen was the Business Queen.
Who remembers the raffle of the Morris 1100 car. The winner was a person from Christchurch. Highly illegal to raffle a car in those days. I'm sure most of the constabulary had a ticket in the car. Traffic Officer Dick Sutherland who married Maureen was a good ticket seller specially when he went up country to do licence tests. Only on the Coast! The Business Queen Committee consisting of mum and dad, the Dixon's etc had the volunteer shop manned I think on a Friday. The shop was on the Old To w n Hall site next the the Westland Savings Bank Building. The shop sold the usual baking goods and meat. I can remember taking mum up country in a KBs taxi collecting meat for sale in the shop. The shop also sold raffle tickets. One day they had the Morris 1100 parked on the street opposite the shop (outside Beaths Building). The committee!!!! arranged for a big sign on the car with an arrow pointing to the shop saying get your raffle tickets here! In due course a message came thru from the Constabulary saying Get that car off the road!
