Wouldn't be a New Zealand scene without the good old orange road cones. Is there a single kilometer of road that you don't see one of them?
Troy Fensom
David Jackson sheep got to dare to farm and wool price went down so we turned them into sustainably sourced local made cones, we get the elderly in the homes to knit them and donate them 1% of profits so they can have a hot meal or a staff member to change the bedding that week, welcome to nz
David Jackson
Troy Fensom Getting that way. If they spent the money it costs on cones and lollipop men on actually fixing the roads, there would be a far better outcome.
Troy Fensom
David Jackson yeah or the 64million they just spent on an add campaign telling us their stupid idea of making accidents not a thing anymore #roadtozero what a joke
Ken Campbell
Troy Fensom The wages are quite good compared to Koreans making Niki shoes for the Chinese in Cambodian factories
Stu McConchie

That bridge was always a welcome sign heading to Christchurch knowing you’d survived the ZigZag yet again. Different feeling heading back to the Coast
Barry Louis Rochford
I slid and hit the bridge sign, John tucker was with me. We were very close to going over the bank. Lucky for us the sign stop us, we were heading back to ch ch to trade school about 1982?
Trish Rennie
The road is so much easier to drive now….love the stonework baskets through there….
Peter Spence
Used to drive Arthur's every fortnight in the early 60's - too many blow outs, so took the Lewis route from there forward - extra time but safer?
Arthur Bass
Slid down that hill a few times in the ice and snow.
Kevin Boyd
Now it's got road cones.
Tony Harwood
Have used the old on freight run at night the old Mack 5 axle B train
Trevor Hutt
The Staircase was my best part, loved the old road, motorcycling over in the winter

I always told the children time to be quiet when we did that climb, look down there, we don't want fall.

They are not in the same place so I wonder why they did not go here in the first place?
Richard Smith
I remember the top photo well.
Murray Bradley
Remember the old bridges well
Richard Pope
Yes the old bridge was built when engines were slower revving and without power steering. In winter it was a cold and slippery stretch until the MOW laid coarse chip for grip.
Richard Pope
Now it looks like a slalom course, esp. without AA signage.Helen Green
I agree!!
Simon Dale Sheehan

Something was lost in the "translation" I think. The bridge was a link back in time.
